SASKATOON (CP) - It proved to be Nelly's night at the Juno Awards on Sunday, with pop diva Nelly Furtado displaying a wacky sense of humour as she took the glitzy gala's top prizes for a club-thumping album that dominated charts worldwide.

"Thank you, Canada, I love you for accepting me," Furtado said in Sunday's telecast, in which she took the winner's podium three times. "I love you!"

VICTORIA, BC — The City of Victoria is proud to proclaim Wednesday, March 21 as Nelly Furtado Day. “We are thrilled to welcome home Victoria’s own Nelly Furtado!” said Mayor Lowe in making the announcement. “While Nelly has reached the apex of international music stardom, she continues to enjoy a special relationship with Victoria and has maintained close ties to this community. We all take great pride in her accomplishments and in claiming her as one of our own,” he added.

In recognition of her tremendous achievements, the City will be officially proclaiming March 21 as Nelly Furtado Day. This day corresponds with the opening date of the Canadian leg of her World tour in support of her latest multi-platinum album “Loose.” All local fans are invited to attend the official ceremony in Centennial Square at 12:00 pm, where Mayor Lowe will present Nelly Furtado with an official proclamation and gift on behalf of the citizens of Victoria. Mayor Lowe will be joined by Saanich Mayor Frank Leonard in making the presentation.

Mayor Lowe would like to invite all friends and fans to attend this public event and to join him in personally honouring one of Victoria’s most celebrated music ambassadors.

Hello everybody!! I hope you are all wonderful. I am in Manchester, UK, about to kick off the first date of my world tour, the "Get Loose" tour. I am a bit nervous, but super excited. I cannot wait to bring this show to all of my fans old and new.

Lots of exciting things have been happening. In North America, I have hit number one on the radio charts again with, "Say It Right". My overseas single, "All Good Things ", has hit number one in many countries all over the world, including the UK, where I picked up my first ever Brit award for "Best International Female Artist" just last night. The experience was thrilling. One of my favorite bands of all time, Oasis, performed. 10 years after writing him my first fan letter, I finally met Liam Gallagher.

This year has already been full of new dreams fulfilled. Thank you for tuning in, in droves, to watch my acting debut on CSI:NY. I thank the cast and crew for being so lovely to me on set.

Look out for new singles, "All Good Things" in America, and "Say It Right" overseas. Another hot track to listen for is "Give It To Me", a hot collabo between myself, Timbaland and Justin Timberlake, from Timbaland's upcoming album, "Shock Value".

SEE NELLY FURTADO perform “Maneater”  from her SNL performance on Dance Life and hear  “Maneater” and “Say it Right” throughout the episode. Airs Monday, January 29th, at 10:30 PM on MTV.

She plays Ava Grant, a shoplifter accused of murder, in an episode of the hit CBS show. Nelly shot her scenes in Los Angeles, where all three CSI series are primarily filmed.

The episode will air Wednesday February 7th at 10 PM on CBS (U.S.) and CTV (CANADA).

GRAMMY AWARD WINNER NELLY FURTADO TO APPEAR ON ABC’S “ONE LIFE TO LIVE” FEBRUARY 23

Grammy Award-winning recording artist Nelly Furtado will appear on ABC’s “One Life to Live” on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23 (taped on Tuesday, December 12 at the “OLTL” studio in New York City).

She will appear as herself and perform “Say It Right” and Grammy-nominated “Promiscuous” from her latest album, “Loose,” at Antonio Vega’s (Kamar de los Reyes) club, Capricorn.

“The cast and I congratulate Nelly on her Grammy nomination and are thrilled that she will perform her nominated song on ‘One Life to Live,’” says executive producer Frank Valentini. “We are proud to have hosted a tremendously talented group of musicians on our show and always look for opportunities to collaborate with artists from the music industry.”

Emmy Award-winning “One Life to Live,” created by Agnes Nixon, was launched July 15, 1968. Frank Valentini executive-produces. Dena Higley is the headwriter. The popular drama consistently ranks among the top five in the key demographic of Women 18-49. “One Life to Live” airs MONDAY-FRIDAY (2:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Nelly Furtado has so many guests on her latest album, she's trying to see if they can all make it to her world party. The singer's in the midst of organizing her upcoming Get Loose Tour, and if it all works out, she's going to have surprise guests tailored to each continent the tour visits.

In Europe, for instance, Coldplay's Chris Martin "should get an invitation" to join her for their duet "All Good Things (Come to an End)" (see "Nelly Furtado Double-Dips With Two Soaking-Wet Videos"). In Latin America, she'd like to sing with Juanes on their collaboration, "Te Busque." And if their paths cross on their respective world tours, she'd like to hook up with Justin Timberlake, with whom she's recorded several unreleased tracks.

"We were thinking of touring together," Furtado said, "but it didn't make sense for both of us, so we went our separate ways. But I'll probably come up to some of the Justin shows, so hopefully he'll return the favor and come to some of mine."

Also on the guest list: frequent Furtado and Timberlake collaborator Timabaland. "He toured a little bit with me on my Whoa, Nelly! tour," she said, "so I'm sure he'll come back and do his thing. We love performing together, so that should be a lot of fun."

Jamming with Coldplay’s Chris Martin and strutting on South Beach in a bikini, Nelly Furtado mixes worldly experience with an edgy new sound for Loose.

A cinematic sunset is bathing the chic glass-walled penthouse suite atop Toronto’s Cosmopolitan Hotel in picture-perfect golden hues, and the pressure’s on to wrestle a supremely glammed-up Nelly Furtado away from an intense hair, makeup and wardrobe session and get her in front of a camera before the magic hour is lost.

There’s consternation in the face of one of Nelly’s powder boys, though, as he catches wind of the grinding stoner-metal track by Queens of the Stone Age emanating from an iPod someone has carted along to the shoot.

“I don’t know if this is really Nelly’s thing,” he says, darting over to the player. “Maybe we should ask her if there’s anything else she wants to hear.”

Turns out, however, Queens is exactly Furtado’s style this evening. As she takes her place before the wide-screen view of the lake offered by the $3,500-a-night suite’s sitting room, she relays a request through her chuckling publicist for System of a Down. Yep, Nelly Furtado likes it one louder.

“That was fun. My little trick so that no one watches me while I’m taking photos is I listen to System of a Down,” she laughs a few days later, de-fabulized and dicing up potatoes to make soup for her 2-year-old daughter, Nevis. “I like listening to System while I’m taking really glamorous photos. I don’t know what it is. I like working to that music. I guess I like juxtapositions. And it’s a good way to clear a room.”

Furtado’s penchant for heavy metal isn’t the only surprise she’s guarding these days. This month signals the arrival of her third album, Loose, a brash, big ‘n’ dirty stylistic about-face for the Victoria-born, Toronto-based songbird still best known around the world for her sprightly 2000 pop single “I’m Like a Bird.”

To say Loose will turn heads is probably an understatement. Composed in large part with A-list hip-hop producer Timbaland in Miami last year, it’s raunchy, beat-heavy electro/R&B romp loaded with monstrous, distorted bass lines and danceable techno-pop grooves destined to ricochet off club walls for months to come. It’s the 20-something Furtado’s best work yet, and the “urban”-informed record we’ve been waiting for her to make ever since she ripped it up so exquisitely with Missy Elliot on that “Get Ur Freak On” remix five years ago.

“It’s called Loose because I really let myself go,” says Furtado. “I really let myself go, ‘Hey, I haven’t tried this before.’ Because, you know what, when you’re an artist, if you really want to change your sound, you have to exaggerate-you have to be, like, I’m not only gonna work with a different producer, but I’m gonna sing differently.

“I was kind of leaving hip-hop out of the equation for a while, even though everybody told me, ‘You’re so good at R&B. Why don’t you do it on your own albums?’ And I thought to myself. Wow, that’s really pretentious of me. I’ve gone and don hip-hop collaborations with Missy Elliot, the Roots, Jurassic 5 and Swollen Members, but it was almost like I was too pretentious to put it on my own albums.

“I’ve had good material before, but it was nothing that was blowing my socks off. Now I feel really, really relaxed.”..................
